Our Accomplishments

With our active volunteer base of members working in concert with City officials and area businesses, Main Street Biloxi has carried out the following major projects in support of our mission:

Development of Additional Green Spaces/Parks: In 2002, Main Street Biloxi worked to design, fund, and landscape the new Margaret Tremmel Peresich Park, located behind Biloxi Regional Medical Center and adjacent to the Rue Magnolia. The corner park now is a popular spot for tourists and residents to enjoy lunch or a break under the sprawling Live Oak tree, new benches, and fountain. Plans are underway for a similar park in front of the historic Magnolia Hotel, named in honor of Mary Mahoney, and redevelopment of the Vieux Marche plaza where the Golden Fisherman stood.

Beautification: Main Street Biloxi worked with City officials to increase the volume of flowers and trees planted in the downtown area. The group also purchased trash cans that matched the historic feel of the area and placed them in strategic places to cut down on litter.

Increase Downtown Traffic by Visitors & Residents: Main Street Biloxi has hosted a successful “Christmas in the City” shopping program, a “Spring Fling” treasure hunt of area businesses, a Cruisin’ the Coast block party, and several movies on the Town Green and at the Magnolia Hotel and Saenger Theatre.

Improve Pedestrian Access: Main Street Biloxi hosted a “Walkable Communities” workshop in April 2003 and developed a plan of action to address immediate needs of the walking and disabled public.

Placement of Historical Markers: Main Street Biloxi worked with City of Biloxi officials to develop ____ markers to be prominently placed on historic buildings throughout the downtown area.

Completed Land Use/Business Inventory: In 2003, Main Street Biloxi completed a comprehensive inventory of all properties, commercial and residential, in its downtown district. This information has been color-coded by type of business and developed into an interactive map with layers for zoning, historical districts, and available properties for use with developers and potential investors.

Formalized Important Board Liaison Positions: Main Street Biloxi changed its bylaws to create permanent liaison positions for the following organizations – Architectural Review Commission, Biloxi Bay Chamber, Biloxi Chamber of Commerce, Harrison County Development Commission, Greater Biloxi Economic Development Foundation, Harrison County Tourism Commission, and Coast Transit Authority.
